Quỳnh Lâm

b. 1988, Saigon, Vietnam; lives and works in Paris, France.

Nguyễn Đức Diễm Quỳnh, also known as Quỳnh Lâm, is an artist whose interdisciplinary approach to performance, video, painting, and installation has roots in architecture and the built environment. Quỳnh's work is characterized by an interplay between personal and collective memory, with a specific focus on her experiences as a Vietnamese woman, both within her homeland and on the global stage. Quỳnh's research delves into post-war trauma, the reconstruction of memories, and the complexities of displaced identities. She skilfully navigates the delicate balance of historical memory and invisible trauma that lingers in the aftermath of conflict. Frequently drawing inspiration from her family's migration, Quỳnh weaves a narrative that is at turns personal and political, human, and infrastructural. Combining data visualizations, documentary videos, performance art, photography, and site-specific installations, her works scrutinize the intricate connections between her family's history and her own perceptions as a Vietnamese woman, exploring the interstice of identity, memory, and trauma.
